Photos - Oliver Schwarzwald: Breakfast art

Oliver Scharzwald is a german photographer who has created artistic montages from some of the breakfasts of several countries around the world. They might not be the most accurate in terms of national breakfasts, but they are cool looking.

  1. How cool are they? I really look forward to these posts of yours. I LOVE photography. I once considered studying it, but my writing needs got in the way :o) I dabbled in a few artistic shots of myself for my music promo once. It was so much fun. Anyhoo, love this.

  3. Aloha Jessica!
I'm glad to hear it, at first I was wondering if making this other internet scrapblog was a waste of time. I've been delighted that people have been enjoying these posts. : j

Last year I had an opportunity to get a good digital bridge camera through work, and so I've read a ton about technique and now carry my camera around wherever I go (E.G. hundreds of pictures in the subway ;}).

It seems to me that, although digital photography may not have leveled the playing ground, it has made the higher end of the middle ground a lot more accessible.

I'm not sure how much you need to study to practice photography... the basics take ten minutes and a dose of horse sense, and then it's all in the practice and the eye. Sure there's a lot of post-editing stuff you can learn, lighting tricks, "what to do ifs"... but those aren't essential. But then I guess it depends on what you want to do.

I'd love to see some of your shots if you have any.
-Hey, I could do a "Jessica B." post here! Complete with music, pictures, sketches/paintings, and interview!
...Hmm, I guess that's not all that good an idea. It would be better if you had it on your blog. But I'm sure your readers would love it. Ramble ramble ramble. Don't mind me.

  4. hahaha! I'd love to do that if you are willing. I would never post ANY of that stuff on my blog, cause I want it purely for writing stuffs. :o) I'd be honored to be a guest on your blog!!! I'll email you shots if you like!

  5. I know what you mean, I try to keep my main blog solely dedicated to fiction.

Hmm... Well, if you don't mind putting out a piece of yourself on this modest little corner of blogdom, I'm sure the 17 followers of this blog and anyone I can rope into coming for a visit would be delighted for it.

I'll need to give the specifics some thought, but if you're willing, I'm willing. That would be a lot of fun. It won't be immediate, I'm over busy this week. I'm answering comments during breaks at work, and writing post in a fevered haze while riding overcrowded subways. : j

  7. Heya Lindsay... Nice to see you.
Not to state the obvious but I have had far better breakfasts in the UK than the one depicted, but none as cool looking. ; j

  8. Thanks for visiting me; These are amazing; wish I could eat the U.S pic; I tend to do low carb!
    I love unique pics...thanks for sharing~

  9. Hello Ellie, it was my pleasure. : j
Hmm... I haven't looked very closely at the low-carb movement. I suspect that cereal would be too work intensive to make than viable, but it shouldn't be too hard to make a low-carb equivalent of pancakes, using nut flour of some sort?

  10. These are so entertaining to look at. And they make me verrrrry hungry too. Except for the ciggie, I think I could eat breakfast in almost any country.

  11. Aloha Lydia!

Hmm... I reckon that excepting the coffee and cigarettes I could eat anything here too...

But there are many things I rather have for breakfast. I think these are more breakfast inspired art than inspiration to eat breakfast.

Now you got me daydreaming about my ideal breakfast... Russian blini with Greek Tzatziki and taramasalata, a thick cut steak with french beurre maitre d'hotel (butter mashed with garlic/mustard/herbs), fluffy steamy Japanese white rice, green Korean grapes and watermelon, and cakes! Oh yeah!!

Nothing like a light breakfast to get the day going and to wind up quickly broke! ; j

  16. Heya S. I'll bet, nothing like a shot of Vodka in the morning to get the blood pumping? ; j

  17. The sausages in the first picture made me laugh. Something about them dangling in midair. And what's coming out of the breakfast cereal in the American picture? These are fun ways to view other cultures' breakfasts.

I'm off to have some granola with blueberries now. After this post, I won't view my cereal in the same way.

  18. Ohaiyo gozaimasu, Theresa!

Maybe it's the fantasia element that tickled you, I wouldn't mind if delicious sausages levitated to my breakfast table. ; j

About the US breakfast... I think that's the milk being poured onto the cereal. : j

Yum, blueberries! I'm added that to my list of things I want to eat during my US trip. : j
