Photos - The value of a dollar (Jonathan Blaustein)

Once upon a time a photographer bought 10 local early-season organic blueberries for $1 and was disgruntled by the fact that a week earlier he had gotten almost twice as many imported Chilean blueberries for the same price. He thus embarked on photo journey seeing what a dollar really gets you in New Mexico.

The complete list of pictures is on the photographer's site: here.
The new york times wrote a piece about him: here.

The NYT article is worth reading, it puts the pictures in perspective; and I love its closing quote!

Photos - Photo Hunting

You've heard of her indirectly before. My girlfriend is an aspiring potter who is still working an IT dayjob.
She's awesome...
I digress.

We sometimes go on a walks with a list of objectives, as you'd have with a treasure hunt. The difference is that our treasure is visual: the game is like a hybrid between a photo-safari and a treasure hunt.
Here's a set from one such a walk we took a couple years back. Most of these were taken with a point and shooter (canon Ixus) except for a couple that were taken with a mobile phone.

Care to guess who is A and who is B? ; j

Art - Post-it monsters (John Kenn,)

I don't know much about him, so I'll cut paste from his blog in which he keeps his post-it monsters:

"Born in Denmark 1978. I write and direct television shows for kids. I have a set of twins and not much time for anything. But when i have time i draw monsterdrawings on post-it notes... it is a little window into a different world, made on office supplies."

Some of his color work can be found on his myspace.

Below a selection of thumbnails of his post-it monsters. There are many more on his blog and he has larger clearer versions than these, too! So if you like what you see, you should pay his blog a visit! : j

I love how narrative these are. They remind me of Chas Adams' work in that respect.
Each one immediately evokes a tree of narrative developments...

Photos - Meeting cool people and playing games

Ok, in the previous post were some images of what I've been up to over the past two months or so... I took over a thousand pictures during that time and yet I missed taking some pictures of one of the coolest people I met during my trip: Zoe Courtman (
She was as awesome, interesting, and weird (in the best of ways) as you'd expect, and I got to meet one of her cool friends too (shoutout to Swathi!).
Zoe's been swept away by writing, life, and the universe... I admire people who are so fully invested in what they do!
So, instead I have a little game for you... mystery pictures!
Anyone care to guess what these are? : j

I leave you with the moon!
