Dancers - Anastasia and Denys Matviyenko (ballet)

Here's a husband and wife couple from the ballet world...
All I can say is that they astound me. I hope they'll astound you too:

  1. It's amazing what the human body is capable of and how beautiful it can be.

  2. Agreed... And I think one of a photographer's talents, beyond controlling their tools to optimally capture light, is to find and express that beauty in their pictures. : j

  3. It's so etherial. Thanks for sharing that! She reminds me of the delicate little doll in a clockwork ornament my grandmother had - with spindly legs twirlining in a white tutu - it got wound up occasionally as a special treat for me (I must have been about 6), and I had to watch with my hands behind my back.

Allow me to also share a link to one of my favourite dancers of the moment, "our own" (depending how French we feel) Aurélie Dupont as Kitri in "Don Quichote". I like her feistiness and "flesh and blood" personality on stage:

And interestingly (sorry, getting carried away...), the same dance as in the first link, but by Sylvie Guillem and her ex-gymnast quality:

Hello S.! So you've decided to add the letter to complete you name. : j Did you notice that the illustration to my post entitled Dance dance dance happened to be Sylvie Guillem? She's awesome.
I didn't know she was an ex-gymnast. And I can't tell from the way she dances. How does it show? Are there still clues remaining, I imagine it's been a while since she's been a gymnast? Time to google a bio. ; j
    Thanks for the links!

  6. Gosh, absolutely stunning! You the first think that came to mind looking at these photos was Torvill and Dean. You must remember them right? They practically revolutionized ice skating. Amazing stuff. Torvill was the first woman to lift a man in the air on the ice. :o)

  9. Heya Jessica! I've never really followed figure skating. I dig when I can see it, especially free dance. So Nope, I didn't know about this amazing British couple. I have been looking at their routines, thanks for the recommendation.

Aloha Heidi. Glad you enjoyed them as much as I did. Awesome, the heights human bodies can achieve through training. The play with light is especial impressive in the last two shots that were made from a studio set, wheras the others were taken from live performances. :j

    Hey there Elizabeth.
Yes, it's impressive how graceful they manage to appear even in the stillness of a photography!
Oh, don't mention it, I'm looking forward to reading your posts. : j
