Art - Google does something cool again! (Artproject)

If you are interested in art check this out!
http://www.googleartproject.com/

Basically, google has taken the streetview approach to museuming, and they have hidef zoomable pictures of major artworks!

It's awesome!

Whose eye is this?

It's the baby's eye!
In a painting of Marie Antoinette,
by Louise Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun.

Virtually wandering in the MOMA, that little plus means they have a close up of the work!

  1. Wow! I think I might throw away my 10x magnifying mirror. That eye...up close...is a little disconcerting, while the painting remains beautiful at a mindful distance. And the wrinkles! Ha! In a babies eye no less!

  2. This looks fantastic, I must remember to take a look when I can keep my eyes open.

  3. Amazing stuff. That is really up close and shows you everthing. I think I will keep enjoying art from a distance.

  4. Heya Annie... Wrinkles are everywhere! Even in time (cf Madeleine L'engle)! I find the zoom to be especially useful in appreciating the painter's technique... I was looking at a Dutch painting and you could you clearly see that the painter had individually painted every hair of a character's beard! Though I’m not a huge fine arts fan, I find artworks easier to appreciate if I can see up close as well as from normal distance...

Aloha Eryl! It is, it is!

Djin Dobry, Japan-Australia... Or perhaps hajimemashte is more appropriate... While this won’t stop me from museuming, it does help me get to experience something of museums in foreign countries that I’m not going to visit any time soon. : j

  5. Looking at the eye, I thought it was going to be Van Gogh's. It's amazing how many colors make up the small space.

Was it your blog that had MOMA in a minute?

  6. Greeting Theresa! You do well to point it out! I should have specified the painter's name to my post (will do so anon).
It IS amazing, and I always wonder at how the delicate nuances and touches of color dissapear when you look at the whole.
Nope wasn't me... But I've seen it. And it is the kind of thing I like to post here. : j
